Signs your Nervous System is in Fight or Flight

It's essential to recognize the signs that indicate your nervous system is in fight or flight mode. I remember experiencing these feelings myself and thinking they were my medical conditions or just how i am. However, once you grasp the concept of trauma and the trauma response, everything starts to make sense.

  • A lack of trust in others

  • A desire for control

  • Constantly searching for threats

  • The body reacts in a state of panic

  • Heightened vigilance

  • Increased heart rate

  • A sense of being overwhelmed

  • Disorganization

  • Feelings of anger and rage

  • Dissociation

These are just a few of the indicators that your body might be stuck in a survival mode. Understanding these signs is crucial because they paint a picture of how deeply trauma can affect our daily lives. It's a reminder that our bodies hold onto experiences long after they've passed, influencing our emotions, thoughts, and behaviors.

Acknowledging these symptoms is the first step towards healing. By recognizing that these responses are a result of past trauma, rather than inherent flaws or weaknesses, we can begin to approach ourselves with compassion and patience. This awareness empowers us to seek appropriate support and explore strategies that can help regulate our nervous system, fostering a sense of safety and calm.

As you navigate this path, remind yourself that you are not alone, and that it's okay to ask for help. Embrace the support of friends, family, or support groups, and celebrate each step forward, no matter how small. By understanding and addressing the impact of trauma, you are taking vital steps towards reclaiming your power and living a more balanced and fulfilling life.
