Thriving, Not Just Surviving

One year one

One year later, I came to the realization that focusing on weight loss and the numbers on the scale wouldn't bring me happiness. The real journey lies in healing, addressing inner issues, and cultivating a positive mindset. Living with a chronic illness adds another layer of challenge; not all foods agree with me, exercise isn't always feasible, and the pain can be quite intense. To top it off, fatigue often adds to the chaos.

What I’ve learned is that if you’re not at peace with yourself, if you’re carrying unhealed trauma and your mindset isn't healthy, then losing weight and establishing healthy habits won’t be sustainable. Eventually, you'll revert to unhealthy choices. This past year, I’ve focused on actions that help me thrive and become the best version of myself.

When I choose takeout, I prefer healthier options and lean more towards home-cooked meals.

I could never walk without pain, but now I can finally tackle stairs, explore waterfalls, and hike the Papamoa Hills. Although the neurological issues still present challenges, I truly enjoy being in nature and sharing these experiences with my grandson.

The habits i have installed in my daily are journaling, maintaining a gratitude journal, and making time to stay present. I also prioritize whole food products. I've given up smoking weed and no longer use pain relief, focusing instead on alternative methods to manage my medical conditions. This shift in perspective has beenhuge changed. By prioritizing my mental and emotional well-being, I've found a deeper sense of fulfillment and contentment. Embracing mindfulness practices has allowed me to appreciate the present moment, finding gratitude for the small things in life that make me happy.

In this journey, I've learned that healing is a process. It's filled with ups and downs, and each step forward, no matter how small, is a win I've grown to understand that my worth is not defined by my physical appearance or abilities, but strength and dertimnation.

Connecting with my grandson and sharing these outdoor adventures has been a source of immense nspiration and motivation. These moments have reinforced the value of nurturing relationships and creating memories that enrich my life.

By adopting a holistic approach to my health, I've discovered alternative ways to manage my conditions, allowing for a more balanced and sustainable lifestyle. This journey of self-discovery and healing has taught me to honor my body, trust in its wisdom, and celebrate the progress I've made.
