Having dealt with chronic illness, I've been focused on improving how I manage things and exploring alternative approaches. Despite the trauma and abuse I've faced, I've had my share of challenges. One thing that resonated with me was when my counselor mentioned my struggle with pausing and resting – I constantly feel the urge to stay busy and keep rescuing others.

Rewind to 2023 and where my journey started

Entering a new year back home in the bay brings new adventures and opportunities to explore. Yoga has always piqued my interest, although I never imagined trying it out. My initial perception of yoga was that it was meant for slim individuals in flashy activewear, and I wondered how I could ever manage those poses.

I can't quite put it into words, but among all the yoga classes I came across on Facebook, one stood out to me. I decided to message them, and that's how my yoga journey began. In the first class, I felt anxious and unsure of what to anticipate, but I approached it with an open mind.

I have discovered a lot about myself through practicing mindfulness. I have learned to pay attention to my body when something doesn't feel right, focus on my breathing, understand the benefits of each pose, and enhance my posture. Most importantly, I have embraced the ability to quiet my mind and give myself the rest I need. Building confidence, accepting my limitations in poses, and finding better sleep have been significant outcomes of my journey.
