Living with a Neurological Disorder

As I'm learning as hard it is living with a neurological disorder like fnd and having a issue within the vestibular system and my nervous system.

The vestibular system is responsible for head control, maintaining balance, and ensuring clear vision during head movement. The organs located in my inner ear send vital information to the brain regarding movement and head position. This information helps the brain coordinate messages for the eyes, muscles, and joints, but sometimes the brain misinterprets these signals.

Dizziness and vertigo

Vision is disturbed

Hearing issues

Imbalance

The fancy name is meinares and vestibular migraine

The second aspect of my struggle is that my nervous system basically fried. While it's difficult to acknowledge, this is the unfortunate reality of how trauma can impact us. If left unaddressed, trauma can lead to long-term effects; in my case, it manifests as Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).

What's happening with my nervous system, as the physiotherapist explained today, is like a car revving in the red line, and I need to shut the engine down. Recovery is achievable; however, it's a lengthy journey that involves multiple people each playing different roles.

Therapy for Ongoing Trauma Navigation

Physiotherapy to assist in managing symptoms and develop strategies to essentially reset the system

Specialist consultation for the vestibular system to initiate rehabilitation

Neuropsychologist evaluation to assess the situation and create a recovery plan

The positive aspect is that I'm already engaged in various practices, such as yoga, meditation, using a weighted blanket, exploring Maori health, reiki, nature therapy, and essential oils. All these activities contribute to fostering calmness and nurturing the nervous system. However, this is not something I can accomplish alone; it requires collaboration where everyone contributes their share. I need to recognize that this is my current reality and give myself the time to gradually reintegrate into life..
