Habits that block your happiness

Being to Busy

I used to be that person who was always busy; I remember the days when I was juggling work, studying, and being a mother. Wearing so many hats left me feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. To cope, I relied on energy drinks, fast food, and quick fixes while managing chronic illness. What I didn't realize was how much I was missing out on – enjoying time with my children and their interests. I felt like life was passing me by, stuck in the same routine day in and day out.

When I had to leave work due to my declining health, I realized that my days of pushing myself were ending, and it was time to slow down. Transitioning from a life of chaos and craziness was challenging since it went against my usual routine. I decided to create an online space and start my side hustle without any specific expectations, just a clear vision of what I wanted to achieve. Moving back home was a significant change I had to make, sometimes a change in environment is exactly what you need. Embarking on my healing and self-discovery journey, I discovered mindfulness, gratitude, yoga, and meditation, which transformed my perspective. Appreciating the simple things in life, I found beauty in chasing sunrises, sunsets, and being in nature.

Being constantly busy blocks your happiness in various ways. When you are always occupied with tasks and responsibilities, it can be challenging to find time for activities that bring you joy and fulfillment. This lack of balance can lead to feelings of stress, burnout, and even resentment towards the things that keep you busy. Additionally, busyness can prevent you from taking care of yourself both mentally and physically, leading to a decline in overall well-being.

Moreover, being too busy can hinder your relationships with others. It may leave you with little time to connect with loved ones, causing feelings of isolation and loneliness. Without meaningful social interactions and support systems in place, it can be difficult to maintain a sense of happiness and contentment. It's important to prioritize self-care, set boundaries, and make time for activities that bring you happiness to ensure that being busy doesn't overshadow your well-being.

Benefits to Slowing down

Today's fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and constantly busy. However, it's important to take a step back and prioritize our well-being by slowing down and finding ways to reduce our busyness. Here are five strategies to help you slow down and stop being so busy:

  1. **Prioritize and delegate**: Take a look at your to-do list and identify tasks that can be delegated to others or postponed to a later time. Focus on completing the most important tasks first and learn to say no to additional commitments that aren't essential.

  2. **Schedule downtime**: Make time in your schedule for relaxation and self-care activities. Whether it's reading a book, going for a walk, or practicing mindfulness, setting aside moments of calm can help you recharge and refocus.

  3. **Unplug and disconnect**: Limit your time spent on electronic devices and social media. Constant connectivity can contribute to feelings of busyness and distract you from being present in the moment. Set boundaries for screen time to allow yourself to fully engage with the world around you.

  4. **Practice mindfulness**: Incorporate mindfulness practices into your daily routine to help you stay grounded and reduce stress. Take a few minutes each day to meditate, focus on your breathing, or simply pay attention to the present moment without judgment.

  5. **Simplify your life**: Declutter your physical space, streamline your commitments, and let go of activities that no longer serve you. By simplifying your life and focusing on what truly matters to you, you can create more space for relaxation and enjoyment.
